Annual
Teach-A-Trick
We’re
proud to announce that we are conducting our Annual Teach-A-Trick session
at the May meeting.
This is our once-a-year chance for you to learn a bunch of new magic at
one sitting. We have already locked in ten members who are prepared to
perform...then explain and teach... some of their favorite effects.
Experience says that the items taught will be suitable for you to do in
close-up or parlor venues. Remember, the concept here is for you to learn
how to do the magic, not just watch it. The
session will move fast so bring a notepad and pencil. This is one of
our very special annual events...don't miss it!! Be There!!!

May
ShowTime Theme
Prez
Cramer has declared that the themes for May will be
"Productions or Vanishes." As you know, either area
opens up a significant bunch of possibilities. If you're real
clever, you might be able to present an effect that included a production
and a vanish or vice versa. If you do, you'll get double credit for
the effort. These "basic effect" areas are central to the
world of magic. If you can't make something appear or disappear, then just be yourself. Any magic effect will be
okay as long as you get up and perform.

StarLight
Magic for May
In
addition to the Teach-A-Trick highlighted above, more new magic will be
taught during our
StarLight Magic session. The professors for May are Julian Thornton
and Tom Waldrop. They plan to teach some very unusual effects but,
to the joy of the crowd, the effects will be easy to learn. Julian
has selected the "Beads of Prussia" as the subject of his
magical contribution. Tom is preparing to give instruction on the
"Magic Knot in Rope" whereby a knot is tied without the magician
letting go of the ends of the rope. A brass ring is in the way to
complicate matters. Practice material will be provided but you may want to bring 4' to 5' of cord or rope
to the meeting to follow the action better.

Meeting
Refreshments
We have a new team of "volunteer
caterers" to "produce" the snacks for the May meeting. Dan
Friedman and David McFarland jumped at the chance to sign up for this monthly pleasure.
While the compeers are "never" looking for anything real special,
our monthly providers always seem to cook up some tasty goodies. Just come to the meeting and enjoy a nice evening snack.

Our
Magic Quote
"As
magicians, we tend to spend a lot more time thinking about the effects
themselves rather than the time between our effects and yet these
transitional moments are at least as important as the moments during an
effect." Jay
Sankey

Weekly
Luncheons
The S.A.M. Assembly 59 sponsors no-host luncheons every Tuesday,
11:30 a.m., at the Beaverton
Elks Lodge. These weekly events attract 6 to 10 magicians who are hungry for magic
and the company of other magicians. There's no pressure to perform
magic. There's no club business. Just join us to have lunch from the
cafeteria and then sit and talk magic with other area magicians. You don't
have to be a member of S.A.M. 59 nor the Elks Lodge to break bread with us.

Dining Availability
on Meeting
Night The
Elks Lodge dining room is normally closed on Monday through Thursday
evenings. However, the Manager has agreed to have a food line
available on our meeting nights from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. The menu will
be limited and will consist of at least one complete supper as well as soup, salad, sandwiches,
and burgers. Meal cost will be in the $4.00 to $7.00 range.
To keep the service, we need to try to have 15 to 20 members and guests enjoy a meal and chat before
meeting time. Please come and join us.
